Iqraam Rayners Speaks Up On Transfer Rumours

Iqraam Rayners has dismissed the whispers that he will be leaving Stellenbosch FC for a Gauteng-based club.

The 27-year-old forward initially struggled for form during the first half of the 2022/23 season, but eventually found himself scoring nine Premier Soccer League (PSL) goals across 10 matches for Stellies, after an uneventful three years with SuperSport United.

Since becoming a hot talent, Rayners has been tipped for a spot on the national football team and speculation has been rife that major clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have approached him.

On Thursday, 1 June, he spoke to a local soccer news publication and set the record straight: “I don’t know anything about me joining Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns. It’s just rumours. People put their own stuff in articles. I’ve never heard anything from all these teams. I will remain a Stellenbosch player for the new season.”

He did divulge that his future plans include putting his Nedbank Cup player of the tournament award money of R150 000 towards purchasing a new home, on top of the two properties he owns in Cape Town, Western Cape and Johannesburg, Gauteng respectively.

“It was a nice feeling for me to win that award. I am very proud of myself and I am thankful to my teammates because without them I wouldn’t have won it,” he shared.
